The Master Chief

It is generally thought in the military that the Master Chief or Sergeant Major gives policy guidance to God. Chief As a Navy Storekeeper 3rd class, when I ran into a problem, it was to the Master Chief of the USS Cadmus that I went to for guidance. It had been joked that he served with Noah, and when God dictated the supply manual, he had held the stone tablets. He didn't just know the answers, he had literally helped write the book.

When promotion time came around, I had enough time in grade and had performed my military qualifications. All I had to do now was pass the proficiency exam. Each question came with multiple choice answers and usually two would make sense. As I read the first question, a big smile beamed from my face. There in the question was the chief's name. He had written the test.

The test was easy. When the promotion list came out, I was at the top -- not just on my ship, but ahead of everyone else in the Navy who took that exam.

Isn't it that way in life? When we know Jesus - the Master Chief - we know the answers. We can turn to Him and the Bible. All we have to do is listen and read the book. We will still have problems, but He will guide us through them.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15

Note: SK2 Southern served his next tour as Financial Controller, USS Grand Canyon, where he helped write a little Navy publication titled "End Users Guide for SUADPS (Shipboard Uniform Automated Data Processing System) Accounting for Class 207 Ships".
